Looking to kick-start your career in retail buying? Niche Recruitment is searching for a Buying Assistant to join our lovely Oxfordshire based client in a permanent role that will give you invaluable experience working with a highly experienced and collaborative retail buying team.
Please note that due to the rural location of the office you will require a driving licence and vehicle.
Here’s what a typical day looks like:
- Supporting the Buying Director with daily administrative tasks
- Ordering, logging & returning samples from suppliers
- Liaising with suppliers, other departments and the company warehouse with questions
- Assisting the Buyer with product photoshoots
- Processing invoices for payment
- Writing product descriptions and reviews
- Updating a spreadsheet of product details
- Confirming product specifications with suppliers
- Booking travel & accommodation for the Buyer, in line with budget
To be considered for the role as a Buying Assistant, you must have the following skills and experience:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (specifically Excel)
- Office-based administrative experience
- Previous buying admin experience is a big plus!
- A confident and articulate phone manner
- Strong written and spoken English
- A full driving licence and own car
The role itself…
Reporting to the Buying Director, the Buying Assistant will be responsible for helping to deliver a range of products with a profit-driven focus. You will have strong communication skills and be confident talking to different suppliers to help ensure production and delivery deadlines are met on time and within budget. You will need a creative nature with a keen eye for detail when it comes to writing product descriptions and be computer literate for uploading to the website.

The Buying Assistant will support a Buyer in a key category, giving you the opportunity to get your teeth into a varied role where no two days are the same. Over time you will have the opportunity to manage your own product range with progression onto Assistant Buyer. A driving licence and access to your own transport are essential due to the rural location. The company have adopted a hybrid working model with 3 days in the office and 2 days from home, flexibility on working hours is also an option.
